For Leeds Baby Week, I was commissioned to create an immersive, interactive art installation for babies.

The Atrium in The Tetley Gallery was transformed into a sensory, engaging space for babies, combining food and messy play.

Trays of coloured mashed potatoes sat central within green blob blankets. Mashers and spoons were on hand for little ones to explore with. Giant mirrored forks allowed little ones to explore their reflections. Soft sensory sausages provided a mess-free sensory experience. A textile mural of an overflowing mash filled bowl sat central on the main wall, filling the space with colour, for little eyes to gaze up at.

This installation, co-commissioned by LEEDS 2023 and The Tetley, coincided with my residency as part of The Tetley’s Associate Artist programme (TAAP).

"It was so incredible to experience Beatrice Lee Knowles

'D̶o̶n̶'̶t  Play With Your Food with my 16 month year old.
Art and play are essential to be intertwined and Bea does is amazingly.
Each part of the installation was thoroughly thought out but it also was welcoming so that my son could go off-piste with his own version of play."
